Welcome to Makaton
Makaton is a Language Program that uses speech, signs and symbols to support people with communication challenges in any situation. Learning the program is fun, designed to be simple and intuitive and supports the development of language comprehension. Makaton provides communication opportunities for all ages and abilities, removes barriers and promotes inclusivity. It helps connect people with the world around them. It is flexible and can be personalized to an individuals needs.

This course is for employers, teachers, professionals and family members who are supporting individuals with communication challenges to build their confidence, prepare them for work or create accessible-friendly environments.
Details
The Certificate in Workplace Concepts will teach you what the Makaton Language Program is, how Makaton compares to and differs from other sign and symbol systems. You will learn the signs and symbols of the core vocabulary, the design criteria and characteristics of the Makaton Symbols and how to use them to create accessible environments. You will gain the knowledge and skills to use Makaton at home, work, or leisure immediately. Throughout the course, you will learn by observing videos that show you how to sign and incorporate other gestures and facial expressions to support communication.
How does it work?
A new course session opens each month, permitting you to enroll when it works with your busy schedule. Four Lessons will be released every week for the duration of the course. You will have access to the materials during the course and will be available for download. You will be enrolled in a group with the rest of your cohort where you can ask questions, discuss topics with others and interact with your trainer. The final exam will be released on the same day as the last lesson and you will have three weeks to complete it. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the course.
